Web Newspaper VS Physical Newspaper

In the past age of journalism, people will buy the newspaper to get information. With the growing up of Internet, more and more people prefer to read news online. On web, people can get more new experience than the physical newspaper, for example, people can see the video news on the Internet and that is newspaper cannot make. “For newspapers, 2015 might as well have been a recession year. Weekday circulation fell 7% and Sunday circulation fell 4%, both showing their greatest declines since 2010. ” (Barthel, 2016)2

In fact, the sponsorship is really an important part of journalism. In the traditional journalism, they print the news and advertisement. But now, with developed technology, more and more people choose to read news on the website, that becomes a mainstream of getting information. Most of the journalism on the web is for free, such as BBC, New York Time and ABC. So how can this website gain revenue?

For the company that publishes news on1 the web, the major source of income is advertising. On the internet, a company can get big data like at what time people read the news a lot or how many people read this article. So the advertisement can be delivered to target audience. For example, if the news is about kids, the target audience will be the parents, so the page can show the children related advertising. It means different news will have the different target audience, the company can aim at different target audience to post different advertising. Online journalism will be easier to get the advertising sponsorship
